Millwall 0 Sheffield United 2 – Besic scores a stunner as Lions exit FA Cup

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Millwall have had plenty of FA Cup adventures in the past few years – but not this season.

Second-half goals from Mo Besic and Ollie Norwood ensured that Sheffield United did not become another Premier League club to be knocked out of the competition by the Lions.

Besic’s goal just after the hour mark was a finish of real class. Bart Bialkowski went full stretch but the midfielder’s strike was unstoppable.

Norwood made sure there was to be nervy finish for Chris Wilder’s side as he produced a precision low strike into the bottom right corner in the 84th minute.

It was job done by the visitors – and the home fans knew it. Norwood’s goal was the cue for plenty of the Lions support to head for the exit.

The Blades could have run out bigger winners. James Brown cleared off the line from Billy Sharp in the first half while Bialkowski saved from both the striker and Leon Clarke in the closing stages as Millwall – trying to claw their way back into the contest – left gaps at the back.

The Lions’ best chance came in the opening 45 minutes when Aiden O’Brien could only curl the ball too close to Dean Henderson. O’Brien also had a shot blocked by Phil Jagielka in the second half.
