“I feel for Frank Fielding” – Millwall boss knows what keeper is going through as he suffers new injury blow

Gary Rowett has expressed sympathy for Frank Fielding after the Millwall keeper suffered a fresh injury blow last week.

The Lions stopper had been out since a quad injury sustained on the opening day of the season against Preston.

Fielding returned recently to play a couple of U23 matches and could have been in the equation to start in today’s FA Cup fourth round tie against Sheffield United.

But he injured his arm in training and now looks set for another significant spell on the sidelines.

Millwall had rookie keeper Ryan Sandford on the bench for the visit of the Blades.

Rowett said: “Frank pulled out of training last week with an injury to his arm.

“We’re just waiting to see the results that come back from the scan. But it doesn’t look fantastic, which obviously leaves us in a bit of a pickle because Steeley [Luke Steele] went back [to Forest]. It would mean we had one senior keeper.

“We’ll see what the results are and we’ll make a decision.

“I feel for the lad because he has worked so hard to get back fit. And when you’re getting different types of injuries it’s just a bit of bad luck really.

“I’ve been there as a player. I had two years out injured. It’s not an easy place to be – to keep getting bad news and keep coming back from it.”
