Tom Lockyer to miss Huddersfield and Middlesbrough matches – as Charlton stay in the north to prepare for next Championship action

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Charlton will be without Tom Lockyer for the next two matches after the centre-back picked up his 10th caution of the campaign in last night’s defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

It means the Wales international will miss fixtures against drop rivals – Huddersfield Town on Saturday and then the home match against Middlesbrough next weekend.

Naby Sarr sat out the 1-0 reverse at Hillsborough with a tight hamstring.

With Darren Pratley (back) also not available it depletes Charlton’s options in the centre of their defence – especially if boss Lee Bowyer wanted to play three centrally at the back.

“Hopefully Naby will be okay for the weekend,” said Bowyer.

Charlton took a big squad up to Sheffield as they are staying in the area – rather than opting to come back to South London before the trip to take on the Terriers.

Jonny Williams and Albie Morgan were both part of the travelling party.

“We’ve got 23 or 24 players up here,” said Bowyer. “Just in case – you don’t know what is going to happen injury wise.

“We had to make sure we had enough bodies and for the training group today. We’ve got nine or 10 training today.

“If anything it’s probably a good thing that the next game is so quick – because we ain’t got time to dwell on it [the last-gasp winner for Sheffield Wednesday].

“All we’ll be doing is recovery now – that is the most important thing. We’ll train the lads who didn’t feature but the others will be in the pool.

“Part of football is how you handle setbacks. We’ll be okay. We’ll turn up at Huddersfield and have a go again.”
