Shaun Williams could return to the Millwall squad for Friday night’s trip to Nottingham Forest.

The 33-year-old midfielder’s displays have recently earned him a 12-month contract extension but he had been missing with a back problem since February 9.

“Willo trained on Friday,” said Lions manager Gary Rowett. “But one training session is not enough to put yourself back into contention.

“I’m sure if he gets through this week that he’ll at least be available for the Forest game.”

Ryan Leonard has been absent due to a hamstring tear.

“Initially he felt tightness and as a precaution we left him out,” said Rowett. “Now we think it is a little more – maybe a grade one tear.

“While we don’t believe it is too serious, usually something like that you are talking 10 days to two weeks.

“What Lenny feels is that for two weeks he kind of came back and got through it but he had to max himself to do that. Training is pretty intense at this stage of the season because the players are used to the level. If you have been out for three months it is quite hard to keep up with it.”
