BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Harry Mullins is a national champion after winning his final in the England Boxing Youth Championships at Birtley ABC in Tyne and Wear.

Mullins, representing Lambeth gym Churchill’s which is run by his dad Samm, earned a unanimous points decision over Jimmy-Dean Lee in the male youth under-46kg category. The 17-year-old from Bromley had lost three times to Lee in the final before. Samm said: “It was sweet revenge and good timing too – Harry will go to the European Championships in Moldova in April.

“He’s my first national champion since we opened Churchill’s, we’ve been going two years – so to have your own son do it is special.”

Belvedere’s Hayley Riddle also won a unanimous decision in the female youth cadet under-48kg section.
