Charlton Athletic focus is on Championship survival – not player contract negotiations
Charlton Athletic have put player contract negotiations on ice until their Championship fate is sealed.
The Addicks have been sucked deeper into drop danger after back-to-back away reverses – and tomorrow host fellow strugglers Middlesbrough in a high stakes clash.
Charlton are facing a huge player turnover this summer with 10 of the current squad coming out of contract – not to mention six loanees heading back to their parent clubs.
Addicks manager Lee Bowyer has already admitted he would like to keep the likes of Adam Matthews and Naby Sarr, whose deals expire at the end of June, as well as landing keeper Dillon Phillips on extended terms.
Asked about negotiations, Bowyer said: “That’s on the back burner. We have to concentrate on the football side now. My focus is just on that.”
Bowyer expects goalkeeping coach Andy Marshall to sign a new contract. His deal is up this summer.
Both Bowyer and assistant Johnnie Jackson have already extended their terms.
Asked about Marshall, the Charlton boss said: “That could happen any day.”
