Network Rail sprayed over Neil Harris mural because staff did not know about it
Rail bosses have said they did not know about a mural of record goalscorer and former manager Neil Harris near Millwall’s stadium, The Den.
Network chiefs are responsible for the upkeep of all rail bridges in the capital and regularly have them repainted – but they were not aware this one was treasured by Lions fans.
A statement from the company said: “We weren’t aware of this mural in Zampa Road so we weren’t able to warn our graffiti removal team that it was there.
“We work with artists and communities across the South East to make our bridges and viaducts better places for people to live around and we have completed murals for other football clubs in London too.
Network Rail has now offered to install a mural at the bridge in Zampa Road which gets the approval of the club and fans.
