What’s On: The Black Men’s Consortium Online Drama Drop-in
A digital drama drop-in group is looking for black men to explore issues around mental health and depression during the coronavirus crisis.
The Black Men’s Consortium Online Drama Drop-in is putting on a weekly online session for black men that are feeling isolated, anxious, worried or stressed.
It is aimed at those who are seeking help, connection or togetherness with others online and are in need of meaningful and memorable creative weekly sessions.
The sessions take place online every Monday from 6pm – 7.30pm and are intended to be playful and fun.
The sessions promise to provide an opportunity to make new friends while having fun, learning and being creative.
The project uses games, exercises and techniques from the Theatre of the Oppressed theatrical form which use theatre as means of promoting social and political change.
Black Men’s Consortium say they build strategies for citizen action to analyse, understand and overcome situations of oppression.
They also aim to create a change in member’s mental health which can promote health and wellbeing and strengthen skills and local knowledge, particularly about how to access support.
Members will develop their ideas and plans to make a theatre show in the near future once the current health crisis is over.
