New Wilko store – We have been overwhelmed by the support of the local people

Shoppers were out in force on Tuesday, when Wilko opened its doors at Lewisham Shopping Centre.

Queues outside the new store started forming at 7.30am with more than 250 shoppers keen to get a first look at the new Wilko store. The first 100 customers received prizes including £20 Wilko gift cards and a selection of copper kitchen products, while enjoying free cupcakes and an entertaining speed sketcher in store.
A ceremonial ribbon cutting was led by the chairman of council, Councillor Obajimi Adefiranye, Stephanie Maddox from Cancer Research UK and Wilko retail director Anthony Houghton.

While branch manager Pervinder Bassra presented the charity with a cheque for £500.

To celebrate the launch, the store will also be hosting an exclusive half price Pick ‘n’ Mix offer throughout the opening weekend.

Mr Bassra said: “We have been overwhelmed by the support of the local people, it’s been a very positive start to our residence here at Lewisham Shopping Centre and we can’t wait to welcome more customers to the new store.”

Paul Redden, centre manager at Lewisham Shopping Centre said: “We were absolutely thrilled to see Wilko open its doors and see crowds of shoppers waiting in anticipation.

“The brand is a great fit for our shoppers and we know they’ll love being able to pop into store to pick
up some of their favourite homeware items.”
