Increased tram service in Croydon from Monday

By Tara O’Connor, Local Democracy Reporter

By next week there will be in increased service on Croydon’s trams to support more people travelling to and from work.

It is expected this will be in place by Monday, and then gradually building up to a pre-pandemic level of service.

But people are still being asked to stay at home as much as possible to make it easier to keep a distance of two metres from others on the services.

And last month, extra cleaning on the trams was introduced with a new anti-viral disinfectant that protects for 30 days.

The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, this week called for commuters to wear face coverings when travelling by public transport.

In a statement on Twitter, London Trams said: “We’re doing all we can to ensure that people who need to make absolutely essential journeys can still do so, along with urging those who don’t need to travel to stay at home.

“Adjustments have been made to our timetables that allow people to make essential journeys while maintaining social distancing guidelines.

“Along with this, to encourage everyone on the tram network to maintain social distancing, we’ve put posters up at tram stops and drivers make regular announcements to remind passengers that public transport is for essential journeys only.”

Posters and stickers on the floor are in place now to remind passengers to keep their distance from others when travelling.
