Youth project receives £75k donation from fire safety firm

A youth project has received a £75,000 donation from a fire safety firm.
Croydon Legacy Youth Zone, in Thornton Heath, has secured Millwood Servicing Ltd as its latest Founder Patron.
The fire safety firm has made a commitment to donate £25,000 per year for three years to the youth-centred project, in support of the charity’s cause to encourage young people to lead healthier, happier and more aspirational lives in a safe, inspiring environment.
Legacy Youth Zone is a £6.5 million purpose-built youth facility delivered in partnership with OnSide Youth Zones and Croydon council.
Croydon council contributed more than £3 million of funding to build the Youth Zone, and OnSide raised the remaining from external contributors
The recently-opened facility works in service for youths aged eight to 19, as well as up to 25 for those with disabilities.
At an annual membership of £5 or 50p per visit, members have access to an indoor climbing wall, fully-equipped gym, arts and crafts studio, a recording studio, training kitchen, 3G kick pitch and more.

“Together with support from the private sector we are creating a legacy for Croydon’s young people, ensuring they receive the opportunities, services and support they need and deserve, for generations to come.”
Matt Wood, chief executive and owner of Millwood Servicing Ltd, said: “We believe OnSide’s Legacy Youth Zone will make a tremendous difference to the lives of young people by providing them with somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to and we look forward to seeing our community flourish as a result.”
OnSide Youth Zones was set up in 2008 to improve young people’s futures by building and supporting places for young people to go, with positive things to do, with caring staff, and open seven-days-a-week.
A Hammersmith & Fulham Onside Youth Zone is under development.
