Family make passionate appeal after Crayford murder
The family of a man who died following an assault in Bexley have made a plea for further witnesses.
Police were called by the London Ambulance Service shortly before 4.15pm on Friday to The Parade in Crayford, to reports of a man having been assaulted.
Officers attended and found the victim, now formally identified as 41-year-old Wayne Hoskyns, unresponsive.
Wayne was taken to hospital by London’s Air Ambulance in a critical condition, and died on Saturday afternoon.
His family were present and are being supported by specialist officers.
A post-mortem examination will be held in due course.
Detective Chief Inspector Helen Rance, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are sure there are further witnesses who have not yet come forward.
“Wayne was assaulted in broad daylight in Cray Gardens and we are making progress with the investigation, but there are still some details we need to establish.
“We are particularly interested in identifying a male and female who were in Cray Gardens on Friday afternoon with a pet carrier, possibly containing a small dog.”
Wayne, a family man from Crayford, was a father to five children. His wife said: “We beg you to please come forward if you have any information which may help police with their enquiries.
“This is an awful tragedy and we want to get justice for Wayne, a loving husband and daddy. Our hearts our breaking at this sad time.”
Wayne’s mother has also supported today’s appeal. She said: “He was a much loved father, son, brother and uncle.
“His family has been left devastated by this senseless crime and loss of a young life, and we would implore anybody who saw anything or has any information whatsoever to please come forward.”
A 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder on Saturday. He has since been released with no further action. Enquiries continue.
