Witness appeal after man conned of £2.5k

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man in his 80s was conned out of more than  £2,500 in a courier fraud

The victim was phoned at approximately 2pm on November 17 last year by a man using a withheld number who claimed to be from Hammersmith police. He told the victim that fraudulent activity had been discovered on his credit and debit cards.

During a lengthy phone call, the suspect tried to persuade the victim to go to Tower Hill to withdraw £4,000. The victim refused, but was persuaded to hand over his Pin details and security information.

He was told a courier would attend his home in Bermondsey to collect his cards. The cards were collected at around 3pm that day, and later used to make purchases totalling more than £2,500 at shops in east London. No arrests have been made.

Police have released a CCTV image of a suspect who attended the victim’s house pretending to be a courier. He is described as an Asian male, aged between 25 and 35 years, with a black beard. He was wearing a black anorak.
