Millwall’s Adam Barrett gives his reaction to link to Southend United boss vacancy

Adam Barrett has stated his happiness at Millwall.

The 40-year-old has been linked with the manager’s job at Southend United.

Barrett, who played just shy of 300 first-team matches for the Shrimpers, stepped up to interim assistant boss during lockdown when Callum Davidson left for St Johnstone.

Lions boss Gary Rowett moved U23 manager Kevin Nugent up to first-team coach and will review his backroom set-up once the Championship campaign is over.

Sol Campbell left Southend at the end of June. The Essex side were relegated to League Two.

Barrett was on post-match duties following Millwall’s 1-0 win over Blackburn on Tuesday night. Asked about still being one of the betting favourites to take charge at Southend, he replied: “No, I’m happy here.

“The gaffer has been brilliant with me since he came through the door. From the moment I walked through the door the club have been great.

“I’m learning all the time. I’m very, very happy at Millwall and we’re progressing nicely as well.”
