Dillon Phillips wants Championship survival to top off winning Charlton’s Player of the Year
Dillon Phillips won Charlton’s Player of the Year award – but reckons it will only mean something if the club stay in the Championship.
The Addicks goalkeeper has been an ever-present and made the most saves in the league.
Darren Pratley was second with Josh Cullen third.
Phillips took 53 per cent of the supporters’ vote.
Alfie Doughty won the Young Player of the Year accolade.
“It helps that I’ve come through the academy and I think the fans appreciate that,” said Phillips. “A few of the boys have done excellently this year as well.
“It’s nice to be recognised, I’ve played every game so far and that in itself is a good feeling for me. But we’ve got one more game to go and no one wants to win Player of the Season if you’ve been relegated so all the focus is on Wednesday. If we can do it and get over the line, then it’ll be a memorable one.
“There are loads of ups and downs in football. I have been told at times that I’m not good enough or not ready, so it’s just nice to be given the opportunity over the last 18 months and be accepted by the team.
“Obviously, we’ve done well in the period I’ve been in and this is a different task to the one we had last year because we’re trying to stay in the league, but hopefully we can do that and I’ve really enjoyed it.”
