Charlton face Crystal Palace in FA Women’s Championship opener

BY JOSHUA BUNTING

Charlton Athletic will start their new  FA Women’s Championship season with a derby against Crystal Palace on Sunday, September 6.

The game will kick off at 2pm but will be played behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Last season the Eagles  faced the Addicks once, with the coronavirus-enforced end to the campaign coming just days before Palace were due to make the trip to Charlton’s ground, Oakwood.

Leigh Nicol could make her debut for the South Londoners against Charlton, the club the Eagles signed the former Scotland U23 international from last month.

The Addicks will then travel to Blackburn Rovers on week two of the season on Sunday September 13 as Gemma Donnelly’s Rovers side hope to improve on last seasons seventh-placed finish.

Dean Davenport’s Crystal Palace will host London City Lionesses at Hayes Lane on Saturday, September 12 for a 7pm kick-off.

Only the first two rounds of fixtures have been confirmed, with a full schedule set to be released in early September.
