Fine dining in a South Bank igloo
BY LILY HESS
It doesn’t snow much in central London, but this winter people in the capital can experience the warmth of an igloo without travelling to northern Canada.
They can also taste an Alpine fondue.
Snow Globes are heated domes on the South Bank that will serve a multi-course menu to diners including a fondue, charcuterie, a variety of small plates to share, and even spiced crème brulee.
The igloos are a part of the pop-up Jimmy’s Lodge restaurant that will appear by the Thames from November 10 to December 31.
It is run by restaurateur Jimmy Garcia, whose previous pop-ups include the BBQ Club on the South Bank and The Secret Garden in Clapham.
Garcia’s inspiration for the Lodge came from working in the ski resorts of Courchevel in southern France, where workers would gather at the refuge hut at the end of the season to celebrate with fondue and whisky.
The Lodge has popped up around London for the past three years, but this year will be the début of the igloos.
The rest of the pop-up includes The Refuge Restaurant and The Hot Cocktail and Street Food, which features such dishes as the Lodge Raclette Burger, as well as drinks like Butter Rum and Mulled Cider.
Each igloo seats between six and 10 people and a minimum of £600 must be spent.
All the evening spots are already booked, but there are some lunchtime spots available during the week.
