Millwall mulling loan move for former Lion Scott Malone – with Derby ready to offload

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Millwall are interested in a loan deal to bring Scott Malone back to SE16.

The South London Press understands that the Lions are weighing up a move for their former left-back.

Malone, 29, is thought to be surplus to requirements at Derby County.

Millwall already have options at on the left side of defence with Murray Wallace operating in that role with Shane Ferguson also capable of playing there – with manager Gary Rowett often opting for a 5-2-3 formation last season.

But Malone would offer something different down that side with his pace, directness and attacking instincts.

He was signed by the South London club from AFC Bournemouth in 2012 and went on to spend three seasons with the club before Cardiff City had a bid accepted for his services.

Malone was a key part of Slavisa Jokanovic’s Fulham side which missed out in the Championship play-offs in the 2016-17 campaign. But his displays caught the eye of Huddersfield Town, who snapped him up after promotion to the Premier League.

The former England U20 international has played 22 times in the top flight and has more than 200 matches under his belt in England’s second tier.

His contract with Derby is due to expire in July 2021.
