Thomas Sandgaard jets into UK to try and push through deal for Charlton Athletic

Prospective new Charlton Athletic owner Thomas Sandgaard was in the directors’ box for Charlton’s friendly defeat at Crystal Palace today.

The Danish businessman, who lives in Colorado, had flown to London earlier today.

And Sandgaard is set to spend at least the next eight days in the UK as he looks to complete a deal for the League One club.

Paul Elliott is seeking to obtain an injunction preventing Panorama Magic, who own East Street Investments, from selling Charlton to another bidder.

The case is scheduled to start on Tuesday at Manchester Civil Justice Centre.

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer said: “From what I understand, Tuesday will be a big day.

“That’s why I’m saying next week will be a big week.

“Hopefully things go our way and from what I understand Thomas is hoping things go the way so that he can step in.

“Something has to change – because at the moment it’s not pleasant.

“The things I’m hearing and seeing now, everything is showing he wants to be in control of this football club.

“We need someone to come through and he’s putting his name forward and saying the right things. Hopefully for the football club it happens soon.”

Charlton are under a tough transfer embargo which is unlikely to be lifted until an owner has been approved by the EFL.

Asked how many deals Bowyer had ready to move on if sanctions were lifted, he replied: “Five, six….you can see [in today’s friendly against Palace] we need help.

“We definitely need help, for sure.”

  • With Lockyer going (another show of loyalty !!!) at least it means Charlton may be able to keep Matthews. Mr. Sandgaard flying in is also a small light at the end of the dark tunnel, only small, but at least a light. Let us hope that Elliot loses his case and we can have a new owner forthwith. Still a lot of ifs and buts, but whatever the outcome, it will be a very slow start from Charlton in the league and will definitely need an injection of other players, which in turn, have to bed in. That will not happen quickly, so yet more patience needed by all and sundry to try and build yet another successful side. I wish Lee, Jacko and Steve all the best of luck in the coming weeks, but that will not be any good if Mr. Sandgaard doesn’t take ownership of the Club this coming week. Perhaps I should be wishing him all the luck in the world.
