Charlton Athletic boss has striker loan plan

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer wants to send Josh Davison on loan – but can only do that when the club’s transfer embargo is lifted.

The 20-year-old striker joined the Addicks in 2019. He had been on the books of Enfield Town.

Davison featured in the Championship for the SE7 outfit in the second half of last season.

Bowyer says he is being forced to play a different way because of the lack of frontmen available to him.

“We don’t have any strikers in the building at the moment,” he said. “Chuks is just coming back from twisting his ankle on the first day of pre-season. We’ve only got Macauley. Connor could play there, but we don’t have back up.

“I’d like to get Davison out on loan once we get other bodies through the door.

“I always like to have a plan A and plan B, so that we can change during games. That’s what I meant by that [playing differently].

“We’re just trying something a bit different – it doesn’t mean to say we won’t go back to what we’ve done in the past.

“It’s always good to have different plans, in case the first one isn’t working. If the first one isn’t working then you need to change it.”
