Charlton boss expecting Celtic target to net double figures in League One
Lee Bowyer reckons that Alfie Doughty should net double figures for Charlton Athletic this season.
The 20-year-old winger opened his goal account in Saturday’s 2-0 victory at Crewe.
Reports in Scotland claimed yesterday afternoon that Celtic had seen a second bid rejected for Doughty, who is due to be out of contract at the end of June, which they claimed to be in the region of £650,000. The Addicks have declined to comment.
But Bowyer, speaking on Monday morning, told the South London Press that there were no developments with Doughty. He added: “The only thing I hope does change is he signs a contract.
“Before I’d said he needed to improve in the final third and his end product – the pleasing thing for me is the way he took his goal. He wouldn’t have done that before – just passed it into the corner. It’s something I work with them on all the time and it just shows they are learning.
“Alfie taking his goal the way he did shows he’s learning. Macca [Macauley Bonne] did the same when he took a touch and passed into the corner against Wigan.
“He [Doughty] should get double figures – because he will get in those positions a lot. He went through one on one in the cup game and unfortunately he missed. But at the weekend he had that chance and took it. He should get double figures, easily.”

£650k? that’s flat out insulting. Not even Charlton’s crazy owners are going to flog off the best players for a tenth of their value.
