Crystal Palace boss Hodgson: Win at Manchester United ranks highly in my top memories as Eagles boss

Last season Crystal Palace recorded their first-ever Premier League victory at Old Trafford, against Manchester United, defeating the Red Devils 2-1, thanks to a first half Jordan Ayew strike and last second winner from Patrick Van Aanholt.
As the Eagles prepare to return to the ground tomorrow, boss Roy Hodgson reflected on where the victory sits in his memories, after taking over in September 2017.
“It ranks very highly of course, because when you go to Old Trafford, it doesn’t matter whether you’re Crystal Palace or whether you’re Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea or Arsenal, you know it’s going to be a difficult task and you’re going to struggle to come away with a result,” said the Croydon-born Hodgson to the South London Press.
“For us to go up there and get that result was something we’re rightly proud of. It was a really hard-fought game I remember. We had to dig in and defend extremely well against a talented Man United team and luckily, we took very good advantage of the two chances that came our way with Jordan and Patrick Van Aanholt to win the game.
“Yes, proud of it, pleased with it, but it belongs to the past. I don’t live in the past. I don’t really think, quite frankly, about that.
“Until the question was asked, I’ve spent the time this week thinking about Man United and what we need to do but I haven’t really given it much thought that we won last time and I had no idea the last time we won in the league before that was in 1989, this is all news to me or things that I’ve been told in the past or forgotten because they don’t impact upon my present.
“For me, it’s all about making certain the team is in the best possible shape to go up to Old Trafford and do our level best to get a result again but we know it won’t be easy and we know we go there as underdogs because, quite frankly, Man United, if they’re going to be title contenders, are going to have to see off teams like ourselves.”
