Acclaimed Crouch End Festival Chorus will be in concert at Christ Church, Brixton end of March

The acclaimed symphony choir, Crouch End Festival Chorus, is venturing south of the river on Friday 31st March for a concert in the magnificent setting of Christ Church, Brixton Road, SW9 6BE (8.00pm start).

Singing at the invitation of the church’s curate, Fr Steve Jullien who also happens to sing bass in the choir, CEFC will perform a concert based on the theme of the night – not a night of darkness but one lit by the lamps of the Orthodox church, by the moon and the stars, and the lights of a ship at sea.

Conducted by the choir’s Music Director, David Temple MBE, the concert’s principal piece is one of the most beautiful and complex works in the choral repertoire, Rachmaninov’s All- Night Vigil, more commonly known as the Vespers.

It will sit alongside Laura Mvula’s touching Sing to the Moon and Rani Arbo’s haunting Crossing the Bar which depicts the start of a night time sea voyage.

The choral arrangement of Laura Mvula’s Sing to the Moon was performed by the BBC Singers at the Last Night of the Proms in 2019.

“Sing to the moon, and the stars will shine” was something said to the Harlem jazz-singer, Adelaide Hall, by Laura’s father and provided the inspiration for this deeply affecting piece.

Tickets are only £10 (reserved) and £5 (unreserved) from www.ticketsource.co.uk/CEFC
