Daniel Marsh provides his four takeaways from Millwall’s 2-0 win over Watford yesterday.

Flemming plundered his fifth goal in four games to seal the points in the 83rd minute as Millwall ended Boxing Day in sixth spot with a game in hand on most of their rivals.

Voglsammer has been an instant hit with fans but had failed to find the net in 18 appearances prior to Boxing Day’s trip to Vicarage Road.

Bennett missed out for Millwall alongside Scott Malone, who was also absent from the Lions bench.

Andreas Voglsammer broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute with a crisp low finish to open his Lions account. Hassane Kamara was dismissed towards the end of the first-half for lashing out at Danny McNamara to leave the Hornets with a mountain to climb. 

The Lions have had plenty of joy against the Blues in recent years and while they may have extended their unbeaten run at St Andrew’s to seven matches, they really should have been heading back down the M40 with another three-point haul – because their hosts were there for the taking.

The Blues had been in impressive form and were unbeaten in five prior to the match in midweek. John Eustace’s side clashed with the Lions after putting the Championship’s early pacesetters QPR to the sword last Friday night, but they struggled to lay a glove on Millwall.

The Lions had the better chances against Rowett’s former side but were forced to settle for a point after second-half substitute Tyler Burey blew a great chance late in the game.

The former Southend United man is still not quite ready to make a return to training following his latest scan.

Wednesday night’s performance against Rotherham was a world away from the meek display the Lions produced at Ewood Park last Saturday – but it still wasn’t enough to bring Gary Rowett’s side some much needed respite on the road.

Cresswell started the Lions’ 2-1 defeat at Blackburn last weekend but failed to make the matchday 18 as Rowett reverted to a 4-2-3-1 system.

Zian Flemming lashed home a 25-yard thunderbolt to draw Millwall level on the stroke of half-time, and the visitors had a number of chances after the break.

Rowett was adamant that there was not much between the two sides and bemoaned Millwall’s inability to make the most of their own “good moments”.

The South Londoners have consistently struggled to score goals – a problem that arguably predates the Lions’ present incumbent.


Millwall boss Gary Rowett opened up on his decision to tweak his side’s shape following Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat at Burnley.

The Lions made the trip to Lancashire off the back of a 1-0 loss against Reading at the weekend and were unable to bounce back against Vincent Kompany’s side, who sealed the points courtesy of second-half strikes from Vitinho and Jay Rodriguez.
