Brixton author Sholto Brown finally publishes his new book Skin and Bones

A book about a deadly virus which is partially set in Brixton has finally been published in paperback, writes Ryan Hogg.

Skin and Bones follows a deadly outbreak, with the character from Brixton forced to react to the virus and flee for the countryside.

While the book may seem to take inspiration from the events of the last 18 months, it was in fact written before the Covid pandemic.

The author of Skin and Bones, Sholto Brown, 45, struggled to get a publishing date for the book but has now had success in self-publishing.

Mr Brown said it was only natural to set the book in Brixton, which he has called home for 20 years since moving from his native Isle of Man.

He also allowed some of his personal experience to creep into the book, with the Brixton protagonist working in publishing and owning a cat before the outbreak of the virus, much like Mr Brown.

Mr Brown wrote the book over the space of two years while working temporary jobs.

He said: “I was absolutely delighted when I finished the book as it had taken me about two years to complete and was written almost exclusively while temping.”

Skin and Bones by Sholto Brown is now available to purchase on Amazon.
