The 26-year-old defender started on the books of Reading and had been one of their leading performers before Pompey moved for him in the 2024 January transfer window.

Gilbert, who has featured seven times in the Championship this season for Boro, has been capped by the Republic of Ireland at U21 and U19 level.

The 23-year-old is allowed to leave The Riverside.
