Catford’s Ellie Scotney: I’ll do whatever it takes to win IBF world title

Ellie Scotney has promised to do “whatever it takes” to win the IBF super-bantamweight title on Saturday night.

The 25-year-old, from Catford, challenges Australia’s Cherneka Johnson at Wembley Arena.

Scotney is 6-0 since turning professional in 2020. Johnson (15-1) is making a second defence of her belt.

“It’s my turn to deliver,” said Scotney, who is trained by Shane McGuigan, at today’s final press conference.

“I’m prepared to do whatever it takes to walk out IBF champion of the world and I’m certain I will be.

“Two world champions (in McGuigan’s gym) within 14 days. The gym is flying. It’s on me now.”

Johnson said: “I’ve had a solid camp over in America, the best camp I’ve done yet. I’ll be taking my belt home with me.

“Being the underdog (in the eyes of the boxing public), there’s no pressure. I know what I’m capable of, I don’t feel like the underdog. Come Saturday night, you’ll see.”
