Championship loan interest in Charlton Athletic goalkeeper
Charlton Athletic goalkeeper Joe Wollacott has attracted Championship loan interest.
The 26-year-old is closing in on a first-team return after a broken finger ruled him out of featuring for his club and also country, with the former Swindon Town and Bristol City stopper set to be first choice for Ghana at the recent Qatar World Cup.
It is unclear whether the Addicks would sanction Wollacott heading out on a temporary basis.
He has previously worked with Charlton’s new boss Dean Holden at City but has been sidelined since the 43-year-old succeeded Ben Garner in The Valley hotseat.
Wollacott had been first choice under Garner, who was instrumental in the player joining the Addicks on a three-year contract in the summer, but is facing a serious battle to regain his starting spot with Ashley Maynard-Brewer in excellent form.
The young Australian, 23, is out of contract this summer but Charlton hold an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months. Maynard-Brewer was impressive in EFL Cup outings against Brighton and Manchester United, making it likely that the South London club will look to secure his future on a longer-term basis.
