Charity launches Christmas gift collection for children in hospital
An annual Christmas gift collection campaign has launched, urging residents to donate their toys for children in hospital over the festive period.
More than 18,500 children’s toys have been collected since the storage company, Access Self Storage, began their Christmas campaign 10 years ago.
This year’s collection has been organised in partnership with the charity, Spread a Smile.
Spread a Smile supports seriously ill children in hospitals and hospices across the UK, through in-person and virtual visits by entertainers.
Everything from magicians to singers, fairies, artists, musicians, poets and therapy dogs help young patients and their families cope with serious illness and hospitalisation.
Anyone can donate their brand new and unwrapped toys and gifts between November 13, and December 11, for Spread a Smile at their closest store.
Donations can also be made to any of the Access Self Storage locations around the country, including offices in Acre Lane, Brixton Hill, Boundaries Road, in Balham and York Road in Battersea.
All gifts and toys will be accepted but the charity has suggested gift ideas for children including dolls, teddy bears, baby clothes, stationery, books and puzzles.
Spread a Smile workers will distribute the toys and gifts to children and their families at more than 30 hospitals across the UK that are supported by the charity.
Lucy Jackson, chief executive of Spread a Smile said: “It’s a precious time of year and we know the Santa visits create unique and lasting memories.
“The support of the Access Self Storage teams, customers and their communities is truly priceless.”
