Charlton Athletic boss Jackson provides injury update ahead of EFL Trophy last-eight match at Hartlepool

Charlton Athletic manager Johnnie Jackson is hoping to add Jayden Stockley back into his selection plans “before too long”.

The Addicks boss looks unlikely to play Sam Lavelle in as he weighs up his options tomorrow night’s EFL Trophy quarter-final tie at Hartlepool United despite the centre-back recently returning from his groin surgery by featuring for the club’s U23s.

“Everyone came out of Saturday’s game fine,” said Jackson. “Jake [Forster-Caskey] is the only long-term one.

“Jayden’s situation is improving. I hope to have him back before too long. Sam continues to build up but I’m still looking for him to get 90 minutes with the U23s to get him really up to speed.

“We’re not in a bad place.

“It’s just a question of freshness – who do I rest and who don’t I rest? I can make 11 changes and have a good team on the pitch. I’m not saying I will make 11 but it will be a team which is more than capable of winning the game. Whoever I put out there the side will be strong. I expect us to win the game but, at the same time, some lads have played every minute of every game for me – I have to be mindful of that.

“There are a few people that I don’t want to lose long term.

“It’s about trying to find the balance of putting a strong team out and looking after a couple as well.”
