Charlton Athletic hit with fresh injury setback to duo

Terell Thomas and Conor McGrandles have both been ruled out of Charlton Athletic’s EFL Cup tie at Stevenage tomorrow night.

The Addicks duo picked up injuries in Saturday’s 4-1 FA Cup first round win over Coalville Town.

Charlton have recalled centre-back Deje Elewere from his loan at National League side Wealdstone to help cover for the absence of Thomas.

The Addicks are depleted in that area with Eoghan O’Connell sidelined with a knee injury. Ryan Inniss is available for selection after serving a two-game suspension for his second dismissal this season.

Mandela Egbo is facing a substantial period out after rupturing his quad.

“Terell had a scan this morning and he has damaged a tendon in his hamstring,” said Charlton manager Ben Garner. “It’s a really unfortunate injury.

“As his knee was planted there was impact and that has pulled the tendon in the hamstring. He’ll be missing for a period of time.

“Unfortunately Conor McGrandles took a heavy impact on his ankle and so he will also be a good period of time out as well.

“We’re suffering a lot of impact and trauma injuries at the moment. There’s not too much we can do about that, it’s just bad luck and what’s happening within these games.

“We’ve lost a few but in the meantime the rest of us have got to roll up our sleeves and win as many games as we can. As the injured players start returning we’ll get stronger and stronger from there.”

Charlton confirmed earlier today that Elerewe had been recalled.

“He trained with us today and comes straight back into the squad tomorrow,” said Garner. “That gives us another centre-half and Ryan is back for suspension and available as well. We’re a little bit stretched. We’ll have to roll up our sleeves, get as many results as we can over this period and keep winning as many football matches as we can.”
