Charlton Athletic set to ‘give it everything’ as strong side expected for Norwich City FA Cup tie

Charlton Athletic manager Johnnie Jackson has confirmed he will field a “strong” side for Sunday’s FA Cup third round tie against Norwich City at The Valley.

The Addicks chief strongly hinted that Stephen Henderson will start in goal for the visit of the Premier League outfit.

Craig MacGillivray has been an ever-present in the league for the South Londoners but Henderson has started the FA Cup matches against Havant & Waterlooville and Gateshead.

Nathan Harness played in goal for Charlton tonight as they beat Milton Keynes 1-0 to reach the EFL Trophy quarter-finals.

Asked why Henderson did not feature, Jackson replied: “With Hendo I’ve got one eye on the FA Cup. Nathan Harness has been playing in the Papa John’s and he has done great. He has deserved his spot and did great again with some big saves at important moments.

“Hendo has been playing in the FA Cup.”

Charlton’s priority is trying to mount a late push for the play-offs but there is also the chance of an upset against a Norwich side who are rock bottom of the top flight standings.

Jackson said: “It’s a great game for us, isn’t it? A Premier League club coming here, we want to showcase what we’re about. We’ll go out to try and win – cause an upset. We’ll be a massive underdog.

“I went strong in the last round and I’ll go strong this round – we’ll be giving it everything.”
