Charlton Athletic target loan keeper signing – and were interested in Hull City new boy

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Charlton are looking to sign a goalkeeper on loan – with caretaker manager Lee Bowyer revealing that George Long was on their wanted list before he signed for Hull City.

Long spent last season on loan at AFC Wimbledon from Sheffield United.

“There is not anyone out there to be a permanent signing who is better than what we’ve got in the building,” said Bowyer. “The better ones have gone already and were way out of our budget.

“Our hands were tied, it’s just the way it is. Ben [Amos] went to the Championship [joining Millwall] and we looked at Long but he has gone somewhere in the Championship as a number two.

“It is what it is, there is nothing we can do about that.

“We’re looking at bringing in a keeper because we have only got young Ashley [Maynard-Brewer] as our number two.”
