Charlton caretaker boss Johnnie Jackson: It would have been a real dilemma whether to call off Burton match
Charlton Athletic caretaker manager Johnnie Jackson has admitted there are pros and cons to tomorrow’s League One fixture at Burton Albion going ahead.
The Addicks were able to call off their game in the last international break after having three players called up – Conor Washington, Chris Gunter and Hady Ghandour.
But Ghandour is now on loan at Maidstone and that ensured that the clash with the Brewers could not be rescheduled.
Charlton have taken seven points from a possible nine under Jackson, including a win at high-flying Sunderland and a draw at The Valley against Rotherham, the division’s form team.
Washington and Gunter will not be available for the Burton game.
“I was glad we didn’t have a decision to make because it would’ve been a tough call,” Jackson told the South London Press. “We’re in good form and we’ve bene playing well, so we’d like to keep that run going – so you want to play the games.
“Conor has been quite integral to what we’re doing and Gunter came into the side and did well. We are quite light in that area [central defence] of the pitch and that causes issues. However, we are in a good place and again it’s an opportunity for people to come in the team and stake a claim.
“Whoever comes in knows they have to grab the opportunity. The players not in the side have got to step up. It is an opportunity for two people to come into the side, maybe more, and two people to come into the squad that hadn’t been in there before.
“In that respect it is a good thing.”
