Charlton striker an injury doubt for Reading match + Addicks boss “gutted” for defender

Andre Green is a doubt for Charlton’s home game against Reading on Saturday.

The Addicks will welcome Tomer Hemed back into their squad for the visit of the Royals after the Israeli striker was rested for Tuesday’s derby at Brentford.

“Greeny is the only one who is struggling,” said Charlton manager Lee Bowyer. “He’s got something wrong with his toe and has got to have an injection in it, or he has had an injection already.

“Tomer will be back in the squad. I know we’ve only got four games left but if we had involved him Tuesday he could’ve got injured and then we’d only have had Chuks [Aneke] and Macca [Macauley Bonne] for the last four.

“We couldn’t take that risk. He’ll be okay now. It was his first 90 minutes in a long time, against Millwall.”

Left-back Lewis Page picked up a groin strain before  the Championship campaign resumed but is set to step up his training next week.

Addicks boss Lee Bowyer is a fan of the former West Ham United left-back, whose time in SE7 has been ravaged by injuries.

Charlton Athletic’s Lewis Page warms up ahead of the match

Page is a free agent at the end of July.

His last first-team appearance was at Scunthorpe United in October 2018.

“Pagey gives us something different down that left side and is a good option,” said Bowyer. “Then he picks up a groin strain. I’m gutted for him.

“The most important thing for Lewis is that he gets back and has a good end to the season – that will open up a lot of different doors.

“The most important thing for him and for us is that he’s available for the last few games.”
