Crystal Palace defender hoping for home tie in FA Cup quarter-finals

Joachim Andersen says that he wants a home draw in the next round of the FA Cup after dispatching Stoke City 2-1 at Selhurst Park on Tuesday evening.

Cheikhou Kouyate put the Eagles ahead midway through the second half, before Josh Tymon latched on to Romaine Sawyers’ pass to level.

Jairo Riedewald put Palace through to the last eight of the competition with a well-taken finish.

Former Fulham loanee Andersen produced a heroic bit of defending with the scores level. Liam Moore chipped Jack Butland only for the Danish international to head it off the line.

Andersen said: “It was a good ball in and there was a little bit of miscommunication between myself and Jack [Butland]. After that, it was a good clearance so yes I was happy.

“It was a difficult match today, they [Stoke City] did really well actually, they made it difficult for us. They were really compact, made it hard in not the easiest of conditions today.

“But we got through it and then we got the win. They kept going, they fought and did everything they could and it was a really, really difficult game.

“At that time [after Stoke scored], we were a little bit frustrated. The first half was not good from us, we could do a lot better. The second [half] was a little bit better.

“We had more space especially down the sides, we just kept going, in the end they maybe got a little tired and then we were a little bit lucky with the goals, but we’ll take that.

“That’s what we’re aiming for [Wembley], we want to go as far as possible and Wembley sounds nice to my ears so that’s what we want to do.

“A good opponent at home will be nice and anything can happen in football. Today, we played against a Championship team, it’s really difficult, every opponent is difficult at this stage of the tournament.”
