EFL won’t play ball with Charlton over Adam Matthews deal
BY RICHARD CAWLEY
The EFL will not allow Charlton Athletic to sign Adam Matthews.
The right-back is out of contract and the Addicks had been hoping to keep him in SE7.
But the SE7 outfit are under a transfer embargo which is hampering their attempts to strengthen their squad this summer.
Matthews joined Charlton in September as a free agent following his release by Sunderland.
But his deal only ran until the end of the 2019-20 season.
“We put to the EFL if we can sign him and they said no,” said Charlton manager Lee Bowyer.
“Not today, we have to do some work behind the scenes now to be able to do that.
“There’s always a danger [he could move to another club] but he does love it here. He’s really enjoying his football, especially when he came last year.
“He’s improved as well. He wants to stay, it’s just trying to work things out with the EFL and behind the scenes to make that happen.”
Elliott get lost we don’t want you , put in a bill for what you have paid out and go buy another school you can close , if you had a tiny bit of feeling for the club you would walk and let a proper owner take over.
Are the EFL out to ruin Charlton, anything they try to do is being stopped, Sack the idiots in charge.
