Ex-Charlton boss reportedly wants Pompey job
Ex-Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer is reportedly open to taking over as Portsmouth boss following Danny Cowley’s sacking.
The News are reporting that the 45-year-old, who won the League One play-offs with the Addicks and took them to the Championship in 2019, would be keen on taking over the vacant managerial role at Fratton Park.
Cowley and his assistant manager Nicky Cowley were sacked after Dean Holden’s Charlton side beat Portsmouth 3-1 on New Year’s Day.
Bowyer took over at Birmingham after nearly three years at The Valley but was sacked last July by the Championship club. It is believed that Bowyer has turned down approaches from other teams since leaving St. Andrew’s.
The 45-year-old took charge of Charlton for 157 games, winning 65 and losing 57.
Former Wigan boss Leam Richardson is under consideration for the Portsmouth role.
Chris Wilder is also reportedly open to an approach from Pompey. While Neil Warnock would keen on taking charge on a short-term basis.
