Filipe Oliveira stabbing: Police release description of man in connection with murder investigation

Detectives have released a description of a man they wish to trace in connection to the killing of 20-year-old Filipe Oliveira.

Filipe was stabbed to death on Saturday afternoon after an attack in Norwood Road, West Norwood.

Detectives would like to speak to a man described as black, of short build, who was wearing a blue hooded top and a blue Covid mask. He ran away from the scene along Christchurch Road.

Police have also said he may have discarded the mask shortly after the incident.

There have been no arrests at this stage and cordons in the area have been lifted.

A fundraiser has been launched by the family of Filipe, killed “by senseless knife crime” who would be “willing to give his last pound away to someone else who needed it”.

Soraia Oliveira, the creator of the fundraiser, said: “Our son and brother, Filipe, was tragically taken from us. He was a very much loved member of our family and his loss will be felt strongly forever.

“His friends are forever going to miss his company, jokes, laugh and smile.

“Filipe was one of the funniest people you could come across, and always put his friends and family first. He would be willing to give his last pound away to someone else who needed it and shared everything he had.

“No one plans for someone to die at 20 years old. Especially not for them to be taken so violently and suddenly.”

Police were called at around 6pm on Saturday to reports of a stabbing in Norwood Road, West Norwood. Officers and London Ambulance Services responded.

They found a man in the communal area of flats above shops in Norwood Road. Officers believe the victim had been stabbed at the doorway between the street and steps leading up to this communal area.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, the man died at the scene. Specialist officers are supporting Filipe’s family.

A post-mortem examination will be arranged and a homicide investigation has been launched, led by Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn, Specialist Crime.

DCI Blackburn said: “Our investigation is making significant progress, but I am continuing to appeal for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. I also want to hear from anyone who may have footage that will assist the investigation.”

Anyone who has information, video or images that could help police should call 101 ref CAD 5605/15 Apr. To remain anonymous, please contact Crimestoppers.
