Fred Onyedima’s return gave Millwall fans a buzz
BY RICHARD CAWLEY
Fred Onyedinma got his first Millwall minutes since returning from his loan spell at Wycombe in last night’s stalemate with Sheffield Wednesday – with manager Neil Harris feeling his introduction lifted the Den crowd.
The attacker had a chance late in the contest to make it a dream impact as he dispossessed Liam Palmer on the touchline, but after racing into the box he lost control of the ball as he tried to fashion a shooting chance.
Harris said: “When Fred’s on the pitch, that’s what we want to see – that hustle, bustle and directness. His pace, I think you heard that bit of a buzz when he came on.
“They want to see that. With people like Fred and Aiden [O’Brjen] – the way they play and the way I’ve brought them up through the younger sides – they are going to be a little bit off the cuff.
“I’m not saying they are going to tread on the ball, like Fred did, but Aiden frustrates as well. Sometimes he’ll go past two and have a shot, or lay the ball off quickly, and other times he gets caught with the ball.
“That’s the way they are. I’m pleased for Fred to get out on the pitch today.
“He’s had a successful loan spell at Wycombe and there was some debate if he’s going back right up until the last minute. It will do him the world of good to be involved.”
