Fulham keeper named in Slovakia’s European Championship squad

Marek Rodak has been named in Slovakia’s squad for the European Championship.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper had played the role of understudy to Alphonse Areola at Fulham in the 2020-21 season.

But the Whites’ relegation from the Premier League is likely to mean that Rodak is back as their first-choice stopper.

Areola was on loan from French club PSG and Fulham’s drop back to the Championship has killed off any prospects of keeping the Frenchman.

Rodak won his sixth cap for his country on Tuesday night as he came on for the second half of their 1-1 friendly draw with Bulgaria.

He saved a penalty in their play-off victory over Republic of Ireland.

Slovakia are in Group E and kicked off their tournament against Poland on June 14. They follow up by facing Sweden four days later and then taking on Spain on June 23.
