Hollywood A-listers announce Charlton Athletic departure for Wrexham-bound Eoghan O’Connell

Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have confirmed that they have signed Charlton Athletic centre-back Eoghan O’Connell.

It has been a busy day for the Addicks with a number of ins and outs.

And O’Connell, just returned from a knee injury, has been a part of the wheeling and dealing after agreeing to join the National League side, whose spending power means they are able to target players in the EFL.

McElhenney and Reynolds combined in a light-hearted clip on Twitter, with the latter struggling to pronounce O’Connell’s first name.

Charlton have announced the addition of Michael Hector earlier tonight. The ex-Fulham centre-back has signed until the end of the season.

Wrexham are second in the National League but are only a point behind leaders Notts County and have two matches in hand.

They are managed by former Addicks boss Phil Parkinson. The Welsh club have a FA Cup fourth round replay against Sheffield United but lost Jordan Tunnicliffe and Aaron Hayden to injury in the first meeting with the Blades.

“Wwe’ll make sure the cup run enhances our promotion campaign and doesn’t detract from it,” said Parkinson after the tie.

“The money we’ve generated from this competition will give us resources, if we feel we need to, to bring some players in.

“We’re certainly not going to let the fragility of the squad cost us like it did last year.”
