‘It’s a dream come true’: 11-year-old classical singer to perform at Royal Opera House

An 11-year-old classical singer has been cast in a romantic opera at the prestigious Royal Opera House.

Holly Keefe from Chislehurst is a student from Blackheath High School in Vanbrugh Park, Blackheath.

At such a young age, Ms Keefe’s talent and dedication have earned her a role in Jules Massenet’s Werther as a bailiff’s child. She is set to take on the Royal Opera House stage tonight and on Saturday.

Werther, a nineteenth century masterpiece tells the story of tragic love, chronicling the lead’s unrequited passion which leads him down a path of heartbreak.

Ms Keefe said: “Performing at the Royal Opera House is a dream come true and I am so grateful for the support and guidance I received from my teachers.

“From rehearsal to the set design to the costume fittings, experiencing each aspect of the production has been incredible and I cannot wait to share the stage with the rest of the cast in front of a live audience.”

Blackheath High School’s music department’s Chamber Choir played an integral role in nurturing Ms Keefe’s passion for singing and opera.

Notably, her French teacher, Madame Moriseau, went above and beyond, offering support to perfect her French pronunciation in preparation for her role.

Ms Keefe’s dedication and hard work have now paid off, leading her to fulfil her dream of performing at the Royal Opera House.
