Karl Robinson: Tariqe Fosu should be back for Charlton Athletic next week – but he needs to be protected
Tariqe Fosu should be fit enough to face top-of-the-table Shrewsbury Town at The Valley next week.
The 22-year-old missed Saturday’s 2-1 win at Milton Keynes due to a groin injury.
Addicks boss Karl Robinson says that the midfielder should be available next time out, but admits that he has to do more to protect the young player.
“Tariqe Fosu should be fit next week,” revealed the Charlton chief.
“He had a bit of a fatigue issue.
“When I sub him with ten minutes to go and he’s the best player and fans go that’s rubbish, we shouldn’t be doing that. We have to protect him. The kid has never played this much football in his life.
“We sub him to protect him. There’s so many facets of why you substitute a player. Me leaving him on has probably cost him an injury in some ways. That’s frustrating for him and me but hopefully he’ll recover this week and be back in the squad for next Saturday.”
