Lambeth Academy rated “good” by Ofsted
Students and staff at Lambeth Academy are celebrating after being rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted, with inspectors praising the strong progress that has been made since the school’s previous inspection.
Following their visit last month, the inspectors have highlighted how “ambitious” leaders are for each student, resulting in their “high” achievement across a range of subjects.
Their report credits the “strong leadership” of Executive Principal Leon Wilson and his team for driving forward recent improvements, with students, staff and parents all welcoming the changes that have been put in place.
Likewise, the inspectors’ report was full of praise for the students themselves, who were said to be “unfailingly polite to adults and their peers”. In lessons, inspectors noted that students are “on task and focused” and “respond to the high expectations which are set for them”.
As well as praising students, inspectors commended the work being done by staff and teachers across the academy. According to the report, teachers implement “well designed” subject plans and are effective at addressing any gaps in students’ learning. Inspectors described teachers as “caring” and said they make sure the needs of all pupils are being met, including those who have special educational needs or are from disadvantaged backgrounds.
In addition to their academic studies, students are said to enjoy a wide range of extra-curricular activities, from a lunchtime chess club to The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award scheme. The report commended students’ work within their local community, helping to fundraise for a number of charities throughout the year.
Inspectors also drew attention to the academy’s “broad careers programme” and said that leaders are committed to helping students “prepare for the next stage of their education and employment”. Ensuring young people have access to enrichment opportunities and high-quality careers advice like this are key parts of the academy’s pledge to deliver an Education with Character.
Mr Wilson said: “This Ofsted judgement is testament to the tireless efforts of our students and staff, as well as the ongoing support of our parents, governors and local community.
“As a head, I could not be prouder of what our academy has achieved over the past 18 months and the inspectors’ comments are further proof of this.”
