Lee Bowyer rubbishes claim that Charlton Athletic’s injury problems caused by training methods

Lee Bowyer has hit back at claims that it is Charlton Athletic’s training methods which is causing injuries.

The Addicks had a huge list of players sidelined at one stage in the Championship last season.

And Jason Pearce, who missed the start of the campaign with a knee problem, has suffered a setback as he looked to step up his training.

Deji Oshilaja will miss Saturday’s home game against Wigan due to a problem with his foot.

Addicks boss Bowyer said: “Deji didn’t do the injury in training – he did it in a game.

“We haven’t had anyone get injured in training – 99 per cent of the time they are not getting injured in training, it’s a game. And then they are breaking down on their way back to training.

“That’s what happened with Pearcey. He should’ve been back a long time ago and he ain’t even trained with us. He is with the medical people, they are the people he’s with when he is breaking down.

“People saying those things don’t even know what they are talking about.”
