10-year-old girl donates hair to wig-making charity for kids with cancer

By Davina Hyde

A 10-year-old girl has donated her hair to a charity that makes wigs for children with cancer.

Nylah Small from Brixton said that she decided to cut her hair to help other children who didn’t have any hair “so they can feel happy”.

In addition to donating her hair, she has raised £340 so far for the Little Princess Trust.

She is very excited that her wig is going to be used for someone who has lost their hair.

She said: “I have never made a wig from my own hair before and I’ve never seen a curly wig before.”

Nylah is thrilled with the money she has raised from cutting her hair.

She said: “They can make better wigs and help the Little Princess Trust to research more into the children’s cancers.”

She has been growing her hair for a few years.

She said: “Surprisingly, short hair suits me which I didn’t expect, but I did like my long hair too.”

The Little Princess Trust provides free, real hair wigs to children who lose their hair to cancer or another condition, to help restore their confidence and identity.

Wendy Tarplee-Morris, co-founder of The Little Princess Trust, said: “We are all so grateful to Nylah for her support.

“Her selfless hair donation and incredible fundraising will be such a big help to us as we continue to provide free real hair wigs to young people who have lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other conditions such as Alopecia.

“As word of our service reaches more people, we are now providing more wigs than ever before and so support from superhairoes like Nylah really is so massively appreciated by all of us at LPT and the children we support.”

Nylah said: “More people should donate their hair for this charity to help change people’s lives to help make the world better.”
