Celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with Bankside’s biggest street party
On June 3, Bankside Open Spaces Trust is throwing their biggest street party since 2019 – it’s all free and you’re invited.
To help residents celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the trust is filling their parks and surrounding streets with live music, dance, kids’ sports and games, delicious food, and much, much more.
Visitors can expect Flat Iron Square to be transformed into a main stage with live music from 12.30-8.30pm – including an interactive swing dance workshop from London’s best loved dance classes Swing Patrol.
Those looking for a calmer bank holiday can head to Red Cross Garden where wellness activities and gentle craft play out to an acoustic soundtrack from seven London-based bands.
Nearby Southwark’s pampered pooches get the recognition they deserve as Bankside Open Spaces Trust’s Dog Show returns.
Who will be crowned Lord or Lady of Southwark? Anna Webb – star of BBC London’s Barking at the Moon – will decide.
Over at Marlborough Sports Garden families can take part in a range of sports workshops.
Get stuck into some crafting or chill out at the Borough Beach. Coaches from Surrey Cricket Club, Regans Soccer School, The Fitting Rooms gym, as well as a demonstration from the Walking Football group, will get the whole community moving.
The garden will also play host to community performances from groups including Dragon Café Singers, Nunhead Choir, The Rock Choir, Rainbow Nation (formerly the Gay Men’s Dance Society) and Superarts school of performing arts.
Crossbones Graveyard hosts an interactive art activity encouraging visitors to think about those the garden is designed to memorialise.
Linking these open spaces full of activity, Union Street and Redcross Way will buzz with community stalls, street food and bars all enlivened by DJs and street performances from UDM Samba and a good old fashioned flash mob.
New for this year, Almacasa along with EXT Radio will be broadcasting live from the event and hosting the UK’s creme da le creme DJ’s, mixing the coolest vibes in town.
The Bankside Open Spaces Festival is a safe, open environment – the perfect way to get together again and make the most of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Holiday.
