Drag King Daisy Doris May previews solo comedy show before Edinburgh Fringe debut

South London actor, writer and drag king Daisy Doris May will take to the stage as drag king persona Steve Porter for two special nights this July.

The award winning performer from Brockley will host two preview shows of How To Mate: The Ted XXX Talk, at Hackney Showroom on July 22 and 23, before she takes the all-new solo production to Edinburgh Fringe.

With cheesy pick up lines, boy-band aspirations, and a dwindling DJ career, Steve Porter is a comically familiar figure for any Londoner.

Ms Doris May said: “Steve’s back for his next series of the TED XXX seminars. He’s put his own flirting skills into practice and now he is officially boyfriend material. Or so he thinks.

“Don’t miss the opportunity to learn from his ‘new found wisdom’.”

How to Mate promises a witty exploration of identity, gender binaries, and toxic masculinity whilst walking the line between comedy, drag, audience participation and dance breaks.

Since graduating Arts Ed, Ms Doris May has worked in Theatre, TV, Cabaret and Film for more than 10 years, most recently featuring in Sex Education Series 3 for Netflix.

She won Europe’s Biggest Drag King competition, MAN UP, in 2022 and is currently working with South of The River Pictures to develop a Steve Porter mockumentary.
