London’s biggest celebration of disco returns to Brixton

London’s biggest celebration of Disco will return to Brixton this May, spread across five iconic venues.

For its seventh edition the Brixton Disco Festival (BDF) will see live music, DJs, screenings, talks as well as food and drink flow from venues surrounding Brixton’s iconic Windrush Square on May 3.

Venues hosting the culture extravaganza include Electric Brixton, Brixton Jamm, The Ritzy Picturehouse, The Black Cultural Archives as well as the brand new Phonox.

Announced for this year’s event are some of the biggest names in disco, house, and funk, including music queen Barbara Tucker,  DJ Crazy P, French music producer and DJ Dimitri From Paris, hip-hop and house maestro DJ Spinna and rising star MiNNA.

Also billed for the line-up are national treasure Norman Jay MBE, British soul pioneer Omar, and Amsterdam’s rising star Tonno Disko.

Located in the heart of South London, the event celebrates more than 40 years of Disco.

But BDF offers much more than music. The Ritzy Cinema will be screening the documentary ‘Luther: Never Too Much‘  from award-winning filmmaker Dawn Porter.

Using a wealth of rarely seen archives, Luther Vandross tells his own story with assistance from his closest friends and musical collaborators including Mariah Carey, Dionne Warwick, Valerie Simpson and Roberta Flack.

The film relives the many stunning moments of Mr Vandross’ Grammy award-winning musical career, while exploring his personal life, health struggles, and a lifelong battle to earn the respect his music deserved.
